It is a good time of year to be a kid. First, there’s Christmas and New Years, which means tons of toys and time away from school. We usually get some snow this time of year, which means more time away from class for snow days and a chance to play in the winter weather. The cold weather usually inspires us to bake a few treats. It seems there is no shortage of snacks at our house this time of year.
Fortunately, not everything in our house is a sugary treat. We usually keep plenty of fresh fruit available and the Cuties oranges are a family favorite. We had a full house over the holidays with my wife’s side of the family in town. Over two weeks, we went through three cases of Cuties. I know they are supposed to be for kids, but the adults couldn’t stay away from the easy to peel treats.
My wife likes Cuties because they are sweeter than some of the larger oranges at the store. She added a few diced cuties to our cranberry sauce, which added some great flavor to this classic dish. I usually just eat Cuties as a snack, but this inspired me to look for more ways to cook with Cuties in the future.
I must have done something right as a parent because my son reaches for Cuties before going for the bowl of candy. That’s a great thing to see, as Cuties are packed with vitamin A, vitamin B-6, niacin, thiamine and pantothenic acid. Two Cuties provide you with nearly 300% of the U.S.D.A’s recommended daily allowance of vitamin C (based upon 2,000 calorie diet), so it is a smart choice, in addition to being tasty, when you’re in a house full of cookies, cake, and other sugary treats.
I was surprised to see that my mother-in-law at the most Cuties out of everyone in our family. Cuties are are rich in antioxidants and studies at the University of Maryland Medical Center report that the flavonoids in citrus fruit may inhibit cancer growth, blood clots and inflammation. So who knows. Maybe she has a sixth sense about these things and knew that Cuties had a lot of benefits in addition to being a delicious treat.
Thank you to Cuties for sending us a case of citrus goodness to enjoy over the holidays. We loved them! Cuties continue to be a favorite treat in our household. It is hard to find another perfectly sized snack that kids love, are portable, and can pack all that nutrition.
