I had a fun opportunity a few weeks ago when Volkswagen came to Seattle for the Red Bull Global Rallycross event. They held a small event with two of their drivers, Scott Speed and Tanner Foust, during which we had a little cook-off at Sur La Table in Kirkland.
Seattle chefs will soon have a new place to find cookware and an assortment of local food items. On June 24, Williams Sonoma will open a new store in Seattle’s University Village and they have a full weekend of events planned to mark the occasion.
Even though my local team isn’t playing in the big game this year, we still have plenty of reasons to be excited. In many ways, the big game feels like a national holiday. Most people gather together to watch the game and food and drink are a huge part of the celebration. We are going over a friend’s house to watch the game this year and I came up with a fun taco football snack that I am sure will delight the crowd.
For my road trip to Portland, I test drove the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. It was an ideal vehicle for the trip because of its fuel economy (24/31 MPG) and it had a rocking sound system. I’ll admit, most of that long trip was spent singing along to the blasting radio.
When we moved to Sammamish, it didn’t take long to discover the MOD Pizza near our home. The place is a popular hangout for families because you can order an individual pizza or salad and customize it with whatever ingredients you want. The food is good and the atmosphere is casual. It is easy to see why there is always a line out of the door.
When the weather is nice, there is nothing I enjoy more than hanging out in the backyard and cooking something on the grill. That usually means steaks or burgers, but have you ever tried cooking a pizza on your outdoor grill? It is easier than you might expect.
Decadent meals are one of the best parts of any cruise. Most people I know return from a voyage with just as many photos of their entrees as they have of the scenery. If you are sailing on an Alaskan voyage with Princess Cruises this season, you are in for a real treat with all of the new, elevated dining experiences onboard.
When our family gathers for the holidays, we spend most of our time in the kitchen. My wife’s family loves to exchange recipes and to cook a big holiday meal. This passion for cooking extends to our gift giving. It seems like most of the gifts we exchange are intended for the kitchen.
When I heard that CaliBurger had plans for a new restaurant in Seattle, I couldn’t wait for a taste of home. Sure, CaliBurger technically isn’t In-N-Out, but the two share a lot of similarities. It was enough to justify driving to Seattle’s University District to check it out.
When it comes to using the grill, I won’t let a little rain get me down. I’ve stood out in the backyard during rain, wind, and snow just to grill a steak or a burger. My neighbors probably think I am crazy, but I don’t think of grilling as a seasonal activity.
