The latest Aulani discount is a fantastic deal. Book a five night Hawaiian vacation and get two of the nights for free! This is a great way to get a little sunshine while the weather begins to chill at home.
The discount on Disney’s Aulani Resort is valid for stays most nights September 10 – December 22, 2012. The discount must be booked by November 10, 2012 and there is a limit of two rooms per reservation. The offer also excludes the suites and three bedroom grand villas.
Disney’s Aulani is a wonderful resort and is one of the most family friendly vacation destinations outside of the Disney theme parks. The decor is classic Hawaiian with subtle Disney touches. There is just enough Disney magic to keep the family entertained, but not so much as to overshadow the beauty of the Hawaiian islands. If you have some extra vacation time, this is a great opportunity to enjoy a spectacular resort at an amazing rate.
The tradeoff to this discount is that there will be construction during your stay. Beginning in mid-September and lasting through the middle of 2013, Disney will build two additional towers, which will greatly expand the number of guest rooms and villas. The Waikolohe Valley pool area will be expanded with more water features and dining options. A new pool, toddler pool and interactive water play area will be added, along with 18,500 square feet of pool deck. Two new quick-service dining options will be added.
The Waikolohe Pool, the lazy river, slides, whirlpool spas, Rainbow Reef and Menehune Bridge will remain open during the expansion. Makai Preserve, the conservation pool hosting the stingray experience, will close permanently and the Wailana Pool and Wailana Bar will be closed during the expansion. Starlit Hui, the resort’s nighttime entertainment of dancers, musicians and singers, will move to a new location to allow more guests to participate. The show will be closed for one month during the move.
The construction will also include the addition of several small details. For instance, Makahiki, an open-air dining room, will add an overhead trellis and retractable awnings to the area. This will allow the outdoor area to provide more shaded seating. Some of the buildings’ exteriors will be receiving some finishing touches, such as work on the decorative beam joints, resulting in scaffolding being noticeable around the resort.
It is hard to say how much the construction will impact your stay, aside from the closures we noted. The addition of two new towers is anything but a small project and we know there will be scaffolding on some of the existing areas during your stay. Disney typically does a good job disguising the construction areas, but even Disney’s pixie dust will have a difficult time keeping the construction noise from bothering those trying to relax by the pool.
What do you think? Is the Aulani discount worth making a trip during construction season?
